Google really did it. Firearms are banned from their online shopping search engine.

Well, it happened.  Perform a quick Google search for "Glock 17"  , then click "shopping in the left-nav, and you will see Google stood by their word and banished firearms from their commerce search engine.  Apparently Google wants their shopping portal to be "family safe" and this means guns, ammo, and knives are not welcome.  My question is, "are firearms not family friendly"?  I know some of my fondest memories as a child include deer hunting with my father.

What does this mean for gun retailers?  Surely they will need to find ways to supplement the traffic lost by the Google shopping engine.  I suspect Bing and Yahoo search will be utilized more for online firearm commerce sales but with Google's search dominance this may not happen soon.

What are your thoughts on this move by Google?

Yeah, I've switched over to using Bing as my default browser last week for this very reason. Unfortunately my primary email account is Gmail. I tested the waters in the Bing search engine and all is good. I typed in a firearm's name that I've had my eye on, clicked on "Shopping" and had a list of FFL/Dealers and found it at a great price. The gun-owning community is comprised of very savvy folks, so we'll press on and find better alternatives. Ultimately, Google is the one that will suffer in the end. Bad move.
